YOU CAN’T UNLIVE LIFE…..

Spiritual Blog - Rewind

Ecclesiastes 11:3b – “…and whether a tree falls toward the south or toward the north, wherever the tree falls, there it lies.” NASU

I do not like to take portions of verses to build a truth upon but make an exception here as I largely want the imagery and idea rather than the overall context.  If you remember what Pilate said regarding the inscription over Jesus on the Cross – “What I have written I have written.”  He spoke of the finality of his words and in reality, we cannot ‘unlive life’ any more than we can ‘recall words’ that we have spoken.  The life that we are ‘now living’ is unchangeable in the sense that we cannot ‘undo it’ so that it never happened.  We can, however, have our ‘past’ wiped clean by the Blood of Jesus and the Grace of God and be ‘transformed’ from darkness into light.

A tree, as Solomon said, cannot alter where it falls and once a deed is done, a word spoken, or a life lived it cannot be changed.  It is only while we are ‘living’ that we can alter the eternal destiny and destination of our souls.  We are told in Scripture that each of us has a date with death and after that, we will be judged by the Almighty God for our lives here on planet earth.  It is not just important but imperative that we take care of the ‘eternal business’ of our souls today for we do not have any promise of a tomorrow.  All of us are aware of someone who was here one minute and then gone in an instant without warning.  Life is like a ‘vapor’ that appears for a time then is gone so no wonder the Bible declares that ‘Today is the Day of Salvation.’

I know a number of people who are living their lives as if they would someday and somehow be able to ‘unlive’ those lives.  They live as though they were invincible.  They take little care in how they speak to or treat others and focus their energies on whatever moves them at the moment.  It is ‘all about me’ or ‘them’ and some have even told me that ‘before I die, I will get it all straight.’  My normal response is, “I hope so.”  That being said, my heart says, “I doubt it.”  I told my sons, ‘The type of girls you date will be the type of girl you marry and the kind of boy you are is the kind of husband you will be.’  I tried to teach them that it is a two-way street and that you are more likely to become like those you associate with than changing them into something else so carefully choose your friends and dating partners.  We all make mistakes and most of us learn quickly that once the gate is open and the cows are out it is far more difficult to put them back in than to have kept them in, to begin with.  So, while we are ‘living life’ we should live it with a view of eternity and in so doing we will live in such a manner as to have ‘no regrets’ and not have things we would like to ‘un-live.’

Today is the day of Salvation, now is the accepted time!  I urge you to evaluate your life and take any areas of deficiency to the Lord and allow Him to ‘transform’ you.  May God be with you as you go through your day!

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS…..

Spiritual Blog - Actions

1 John 3:18 – “Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.”  NIV

We’ve all heard that adage, “actions speak louder than words” and know that it is absolutely true.  Words can become so cheap that they are meaningless but actions reveal the heart.  I realize that the Bible teaches us that “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks,” and believe that fully.  I also know that a person can say one thing and do something completely different and that is a completely different picture.

LOVE that does not have actions with it is not LOVE it is something else and may only be manipulation or even lust but it most assuredly is not real love!  Jesus told us that the one that is “forgiven much, loves much,” and that is a most powerful statement.  If I have it in my power to do something for someone that I love and fail or refuse to do that it really does not matter what I say my actions caused my words to go unheard.  You can weep and tell someone how much you love them, but if you continually abuse them or are unfaithful to them do you think they believe a word you are saying?  Not if they have any ability for rational thought.

God hears our words and sees our actions, do they match?  We will give an account of every action, deed, and word one day and it would behoove each of us to carefully weigh our words before speaking them.  It would behoove each of us to endeavor to ensure that our words and actions are the same.  Anything less is a demonstration of hypocrisy or worse but it is not an expression of Love or Faith.

So, this short and very brief devotional is directed at one thing and that is hopefully, to jolt each of us into the reality that WHAT WE DO is usually much louder than WHAT WE SAY especially if the two do not correspond.  So, as you go through your day, consider the words that come from your heart, mind, and mouth and examine your actions – – IS THERE A MATCH?  If not then I would suggest a quick and determined trip to the prayer closet for a time of repentance and soul searching before the LORD.

May God be with you as you go through your day!

THE SEEDS OF REBELLION – – Part III

Spiritual Blog - Absalom Spirit

2 Samuel 15:1-4 – “In the course of time, Absalom provided himself with a chariot and horses and with fifty men to run ahead of him. 2 He would get up early and stand by the side of the road leading to the city gate. Whenever anyone came with a complaint to be placed before the king for a decision, Absalom would call out to him, “What town are you from?” He would answer, “Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel.” 3 Then Absalom would say to him, “Look, your claims are valid and proper, but there is no representative of the king to hear you.” 4 And Absalom would add, “If only I were appointed judge in the land! Then everyone who has a complaint or case could come to me and I would see that he gets justice.”  NIV

Picking up where we left off yesterday let’s bring this to a conclusion and hopefully these three devotionals will have been of benefit to you and to others as you travel the pathway of life.

From the “Spirit of Revenge,” we transition or evolve into a “Spirit of Selfishness,” which in my opinion is a basic “Root of Sin.”  It is the catalyst that sends us headlong down the slope of destruction and results in many being defiled.

Proverbs 16:2 – “All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight, but the Lord weighs the motives…”

Note the progression.  Absalom is brought back to the Kingdom of David after three years of exile but given no audience with the King for TWO FULL YEARS.  He has no remorse for his actions.  He is so filled with hatred, vengeance, and self that he sees only HIS OWN AGENDA!  He is rapidly reaching the point of no return.  He has already learned to permit hatred to have its full vent.  He has already developed an intense lack of respect for authority and he has tasted apparent victory through his rebellion in the burning of Joab’s Field.

Hatred, bitterness, vengeance, selfishness all produce Self Righteousness.”  This, in turn, produces a “Superiority Complex” in the heart and drives the carnal man to believe that: He should be number one because he is better, more capable than or at least as capable as those in authority and that produces two spirits.

The Self Exalting Spirit.

2 Samuel 15:4 – “Oh that I were made King in the land….”

Get into his head.  He is thinking, “I handled that rascal Amnon, when the King failed and I could handle all the problems of the land, but the King continues to fail.  All would be well if I were King.”

The Spirit of Deception.

2 Samuel 15:3 – Absalom’s supposed interest in the people’s problems and needs brings him to plant the seed in the minds of the subjects “maybe the King isn’t as interest in us as he should be, but Absalom is.”

We are told in the story that Absalom would sit in the Gate and ask questions that seemed harmless and seemed to express genuine interest in people but they were extremely troubling and bring alarm to my spirit.  He would shout to the people, “What village are you from?”  “What tribe are you?”  He had an agenda and it was his motivation.

The questions seemed harmless but the reason he was asking is troubling.  He had his own agenda and wanted to find out where the people were in their thinking so he could speak things into their “thought processes” that would cause them to look favorable upon him and his cause.  On the surface he appeared to be on the side of the King and Right.  Please understand that he carefully hid his plan and would never openly discuss it with anyone.  There was a “Spirit of Deceptiveness” in him.

It is here that I feel that I need to give a warning about the “Absalom Spirit”.  I don’t know exactly how it applies to everyone but I know it does and to some in particular.  I know that this spirit NEVER manifests itself upfront immediately.  It comes in a very deceptive manner and initially it appears to be helpful and expresses concern about your condition, position, and problems.  It sounds sincere and valid but it is diabolical.  If you encounter the “Absalom Spirit” you can easily be drawn into rebellion and find yourself involved in something that God NEVER INTENDED.  If you allow an “Absalom Spirit” to develop in your heart you will ultimately find yourself facing the judgment of God severely and quickly.

I want to conclude with a prayer:

“Lord, I pray now for each person reading this that you will protect them from deception.  I sense in my heart that we are near a time of the birthing of something new and special in God and a time of visitation from the Lord.  I believe that breakthrough and breakout is coming in the lives of your people so I ask that you give revelation to each heart and allow each one to recognize and know any “Absalom Spirit’ that comes into their life in any fashion and enable them to biblically and correctly respond to that spirit.  In the name of Jesus I pray.  Amen.”

May God be with you as you go through your day!

THE SEEDS OF REBELLION – – Part II

Spiritual Blog - Revenge

Let’s pick up where we left off yesterday and continue to look at this important issue in every person’s life, especially believers.

From the “Spirit of Hatred”, we move to the “Spirit of Revenge.”  It is here that “hatred” and “unforgiveness” from past hurts or perceived wrongs if not completely and totally rolled onto the Lord will produce a “Spirit of Revenge and Vengeance” where we become god in the situation.  We obviously do not become God be we assume the role of God through our actions and attitudes.  That is a most dangerous place!

As I said yesterday Amnon was a first-class skunk and deserved punishment for what he did!  There is absolutely no justification for his actions.  The problem for Absalom (v.23) is that it produced a “Two-Year-Old Grudge” and led to cold calculated premeditated murder!   There was no place for forgiveness and not attempt to resolve the issue through the proper channels.  Absalom assumed the role of God and took matters into his own hands and resulted in his ultimate destruction.  Oh, Amnon received punishment but Absalom received what was an equal if not greater punishment.

This spirit usurps God’s authority and produces self-righteousness that justifies every action involved in the process.  It violates Scripture.

Romans 12:19 – “Vengeance is mine; I will repay says the Lord…”

(vv 20-21) – – Describes the action God desires from us toward our enemies or perceived enemies:  “But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head.  Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

That is taught in Deuteronomy!  It is something that Absalom would have been taught as a child and had to quote for his Bar-mitzvah to become a man!  He had no excuse.  Revenge says “My Rights!”  Love says “I have no rights, I’m the Bond Salve of the Lord, I belong to the Lord so if they hurt me they hurt the Lord and I trust Him to be the Righteous Judge.”  That is not easy and unless we stay under the shelter of His arms it is not possible at times.

I pray that as you go through your day may you will walk in the blessings of the Lord and know His incredible Peace!

THE SEEDS OF REBELLION….

Spiritual Blog - Rebellion

I chose to use just four verses in this devotional in the 15th chapter but suggest that you read the entire Absalom story because it is one of POTENTIAL that turned to REBELLION and resulted in DISASTER.  It not only affected Absalom but those he enlisted in his rebellion and caused them to miss the purposes of God for their lives.  Absalom was “Heir Apparent” to the throne of David.  He was loved by everyone, noted for his beauty, and filled with God-given natural ability, charisma, charm, and many other great qualities.  The sad part is he allowed “Roots of Bitterness” and “Unforgiveness” to fester in his heart until it ultimately destroyed him and produced in him a “Deceptive Spirit” and a “Spirit of Rebellion.”  We could all find ourselves in that place so it is a valuable story for us to read and study.

I’ve said, especially with regard to spiritual things, that “He who will not follow and submit to God-ordained human authority within biblical guidelines, will not submit to Divine Authority!”  I’ve seen it and been the target of it.

Proverbs 16:18 – “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”

Proverbs 13:10 – “ONLY by pride comes contention; but with the well advised there is wisdom.”  [Emphasis mine]

Proverbs 29:23 – “A man’s pride will bring him low; but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.”

James 3:16 – “For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.”

THE SEEDS OF REBELLION:

Begins with a “Spirit of Hatred,” and usually comes out of an injury or perceived wrong.  It can be a wound to the ego, pride, or person and may come in the form of words or even be physical.  It is an infringement upon perceived rights as seen in 2 Samuel 13Amnon and Tamar (v.22).  Absalom developed an intense hatred for Amnon and I will acknowledge that Amnon was a skunk of the worst kind.

Proverbs 10:12 – “Hatred stirs up strife….”

Proverbs 15:17 – “Better is a dish of vegetables where love is, than a fattened ox and hatred with it.”

1 John 2:9 – “The one who says he is in the light and yet hates his brother is in darkness until now.”

1 John 3:15 – “Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer…”

HATE is like cancer, it grows, spreads, and destroys.  It breeds prejudice and prevents and perverts “Righteous Judgment.”  It breeds a “Vengeful Spirit” and prevents “Forgiveness.”  Through Absalom’s refusal to forgive he allowed the Seed of Hate to develop in his heart and this led to his ultimate demise.

Even in cases where we feel that our anger is “righteous indignation” if we allow hatred to fester and refuse to forgive it will lead us down the path of destruction.  It is a most dangerous condition and position.  I will stop here and pick this up tomorrow because more needs to be said.

May God bless you as you go through your day!

I’M LOOKING UP IN A WORLD LOOKING DOWN….

Spiritual Blog - Looking Up

John 14:1-6 – “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.  2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.  4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.”  5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”  NKJV

There is so much disappointment, despondency, despair, and desperation in this world today that it is often difficult to keep an upbeat attitude but this passage is how I accomplish it.  I’m looking up in a world that is looking down!  I take the words of Jesus seriously and apply them regularly and daily to my own personal life and they produce the desired result.  Do I ever get discouraged?  Of course, I do.  Do I ever fall short?  Of course, I do, but when I do I “look up” and my heart is “lifted up” and I soar like an eagle in the Spirit.

IF I believe in God and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ then I am able to believe in His promise of a better place eternally.  I don’t know if there are mansions or rooms as some have interpreted this passage and don’t care.  I know that even if it were a cot in the corner of a dormitory Heaven is going to be incredible and that in that land that is brighter than day there will be no more sorrow, sadness, sickness, or pain!  No more devils to fight, no more politics to concern ourselves with, no more economic woes only peace and joy FOREVER!

I believe in the promise that Jesus is preparing and has prepared a place for us and that He is coming back for us so that we can be with Him FOREVER!  I know that the way to that land and life is through Him by way of the Cross through repentance.

1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”  NKJV

I believe that, have done that and received His mercy and grace.  I have experienced the NEW BIRTH  and I am a child of the Most High God through the Blood of Jesus Christ shed for the remission of my sins.  My name is in the Book of Life and there is a better day waiting when I pass beyond this veil we call life into that eternal state FOREVER with our Lord.

Some have asked me how I maintain my confidence in these times and I always tell them that I’m looking up in a world looking down!  I keep my eyes on the prize of the high calling in Christ Jesus and my eyes on Him!  That keeps me looking up and lifted up in my spirit and keeps joy abounding in my heart.

So as you go through this day do so knowing that Jesus always keeps His word!  Look up in a world looking down!  May God bless you richly is my prayer!

THE NEED AND THE POWER IN PRAYER…. (Part 4)

Spiritual Blog - Prayer

Jeremiah 33:3 – “Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’” NASU

Let’s continue our journey into understanding the misconceptions, the dynamics, and importance of Prayer!

PRAYER IS MORE THAN A COMMITMENT IT IS A COMMAND….

We take great pride here in America that we are FREE!  We live in a society that is based on a Republican Democracy and we revel in our Independence. That is great in helping the individual develop a sense of worth and significance but it can also produce a weakness in our understanding the force, power, and importance of authority.  It is important that we realize that the Bible is not a book of ‘suggestions’ it is GOD’S WORD!  In that light, prayer is not an ‘option’ it is vital to life itself spiritually.  The word pray occurs 250 times and the word praying 280 times so that sounds pretty important to me!

However when you say it is a ‘command’ that seems to produce a resistance in many hearts.  The command to pray is not to discipline us but because prayer is so incredibly vital for our Spiritual Life!  How often do we need to pray?  How often do we need to breathe or eat?  How much time does it require to establish and develop a sound, wholesome relationship?  That’s how much we need to pray!

GENUINE PRAYER IS A CHALLENGE…

Remember the words of our text in Jeremiah 33 – God says CALL.  That is our responsibility.  He then promises “I will answer you.”  Then He adds, “I will show you great and mighty things, which you did not and do not know.”  Therefore, it is simple – If we do not pray we will miss many if not most of God’s answers and revelations!  No communication with God results in no revelations from God!

Life is a challenge!  We face one challenge after another as we wind our way through the maze called Life!  Through prayer, we can work our way through it with much greater ease and effectiveness.  The Church does not need more programs it needs more Jesus!  We might want to turn our ‘supper rooms’ into ‘upper rooms.’

PRAYER IS MORE THAN A COMMITMENT, COMMAND, AND CHALLENGE IT IS ALSO A CATHARSIS….

1 Peter 5:7 – “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”

That directive is a channel through which we can remove the negative emotions of anxiety, fear, and anger from our lives.  Prayer releases the overload of stress and pressure and casts them at the feet of our LORD!  It transfers the weight of life and living from the weak to the strong!  It is therapeutic, unlocks the inner man, and allows us to draw from God’s strength, wisdom, and might!  Prayer is a preventative from BURNOUT!

Isaiah 40:31 – “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

Prayer is a key to survival and victory!  It is our channel of communication with God Himself.  God meets with us in ascending levels of communication where each level meets a great need in our lives.  Each level moves us into a higher realm in the Spirit.  Each level opens to us a greater degree of God’s presence.  Each level gives us a more full revelation of His Person and Nature.

Remember you have an INVITATION to come before Him ANYTIME for ANYTHING and He is ready to HEAR you and RESPOND to you.

May God bless you as you go through your day!

THE NEED AND THE POWER IN PRAYER…. (Part 3)

Spiritual Blog - Prayer

Jeremiah 33:3 – “Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’” NASU

Let’s step a little deeper into our consideration of the importance, misconceptions, and dynamics of Prayer!

EFFECTIVE PRAYER REQUIRES COMMITMENT…

That is absolutely true but it requires more than our commitment and dedication to the activity – – It requires something on God’s part as well.  God has extended to us the ‘invitation’ to prayer and has granted us the ‘ability’ to pray and ‘teaches’ us to pray through the Holy Spirit.  Yet, we MUST NEVER FORGET who we are addressing when we pray.

1 Timothy 6:15-16 – “… He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.”  NASU

You do not just casually drop in on people like the President, Prime Ministers, or Royalty in the natural, so why would we think that we could do so in the spiritual.  However, this one has extended an ‘invitation’ to enter His presence ANYTIME and make our request known to Him!  We have an OPEN INVITATION to call upon Him anytime!

Jeremiah 29:12 – “…pray to Me, and I will listen to you.”  NASU

Job 33:26 – “Then he will pray to God, and He will accept him, that he may see His face with joy, and He may restore His righteousness to man.” NASU

When you realize God’s directive regarding prayer you understand that the person who prays is promised a hearing, God delights in that person and promises divine righteousness to them.  That is incredible!  Prayer is not ‘overcoming the reluctance’ of God.  Prayer is responding to provision of God.  The appointment has already been made it is up to us to keep it – GOD WILL!

Prayer is a powerful interaction with God.  It is not like a beggar asking alms from a wealthy person.  It is more like an ambassador reporting to his superior.  Prayer demands ‘discipline’, dedication and ‘determination.’

Jeremiah 29:13 – “You will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”

Did you get that?  God promised that if we seek Him we will find Him WHEN we do so with all our heart!  Prayer is more than praying for the needs of others or for a particular desire or situation.  It is ‘fellowshipping’ with God UNTIL you get to know His heart and His will!  So, my question for all of us – “How much time does it require to know God intimately?”  People who only pray when the Spirit moves them or they face a crisis seldom develop any real depth in their relationship with God.  God’s commitment to us requires a commitment from us!  He has made Himself available ALL THE TIME we must make ourselves available to Him.  Communication requires at least two persons!

I have a few more thoughts on this subject but will hold them until another session.  May the Lord richly be with you as you go through your day!

THE NEED AND THE POWER IN PRAYER…. (Part 2)

Spiritual Blog - Prayer

Jeremiah 33:3 – “Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’” NASU

I would like to illustrate and identify some misconceptions regarding prayer in an effort to identify its power, purpose, and importance in the Christian’s arsenal of Spiritual Weapons.

IT IS OFTEN MORE OF A COMMODITY THAN AN ACTION.

What I mean by that is that in our generation it seems that prayer is viewed as something that can be manufactured, marketed, microwaved, and served as needed.  I am all for virtually every effort to get people to pray but I am convinced that if people truly understand the dynamic of prayer and its power and purpose they will pray!  Some people seem to feel that prayer is like an item on the shelf in a grocery store.  We turn to prayer chains, calendars, days and nights, rotate praying, send money for others to pray for us, and even have dial-a-prayers.  I am not suggesting that those are bad in and of themselves my question is “How much do we actually pray ourselves and for ourselves?”  Too often people seem to specialize in a ‘word of prayer’ or ‘recite a canned prayer’ rather than actually engaging in the work of prayer!

It is apparent that most understand the need for prayer but do we understand the dynamics of prayer and pray?  I heard an illustration years ago that illustrates what I’m saying:

“There was a wealthy widow on an Ocean Liner enroute from England to America.  A severe storm developed and she used her influence to access the bridge where she demanded that the Captain do something.  He responded, “Ma’am, everything that can be done has been done. We are now in the hands of God, we can ONLY pray.”  Upon hearing that she gasped:  “Captain, has it come to that!”  Then she fainted in fear.

Prayer should never be a ‘last resort’ but the ‘initial reaction’ or ‘action’.  Prayer is not an ‘appeal’ to Heaven’s Supreme Court it is a conversation with our LORD.  It is communion with God not simply conforming to a Law.  It is not getting ‘from’ God it is getting ‘to’ God.  Our problem, too often, is that we are so involved in the natural world that we do not avail ourselves of the spiritual world.  We are easily able to SEE the natural but are BLIND to the spiritual.

Some seem to believe that while prayer is somewhat profitable, they are not convinced of its power and vitality and therefore it occupies a relatively low position on their list of priorities.  It is more of a ‘break the glass in case of emergency’ endeavor than one of daily and regular engagement.

We have more to say on this subject but will hold further thoughts until tomorrow.  Until then may God bless you and be with you as you go through your day!

THE NEED AND THE POWER IN PRAYER….

Spiritual Blog - Prayer

Jeremiah 33:3 – “Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’” NASU

Some years ago a person in the church I was leading said, “My Bible automatically opens to Jeremiah 33:3 now because Brother Roy preaches so much from that passage.”  It is a passage that I refer to frequently because God has impressed upon me the need and importance of prayer.  Prayer is communication, petition, and a weapon of warfare spiritually.  It would be a tremendous understatement to say that ‘prayer’ is important.  It is more than important in the Christian’s Life it is critical!  I fully believe and the Bible reveals that prayer is one of the greatest weapons a Christian can have and use and yet it is possible the most misunderstood and underdeveloped weapon in our arsenal.

The Bible has much to say in reference to the ‘mighty weapons’ at the disposal of the believer and that includes the myriad of references to prayer.

Luke 18:1 – “…men always ought to pray and not lose heart…” NKJV

1 Thessalonians 5:17 – “…pray without ceasing…” NASU

Luke 11:1 – “…Lord, teach us to pray…” NASU

Matthew 6:9 – “In this manner, therefore, pray…” NKJV

Those are just a sampling of the multitude of references and calls to prayer in Scripture and one would wonder why it is so ‘underutilized’.  Prayer is a vehicle or channel whereby God has provided for mortal man to reach into the eternal realm.  Prayer is one of the most talked about and least done endeavors among professing Christians.  The writers of Scripture knew, understood, and utilized its power!

David – – “The Lord has heard my supplication; the Lord will receive my prayer.”  (Psalm 6:9)

Solomon – – –“The Lord… hears the prayer of the righteous.”  (Proverbs 15:29)

Paul – – “I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.”  (1 Timothy 2:8)

James – – “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”  (James 5:16)

Peter – – “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers.”  (1 Peter 3:12)

On one occasion facing a situation that was shaking me to the core of my being, I was reading and the Holy Spirit directed me to a passage in the “Little Johns” that grabbed my attention and inspired my faith and confidence.  It has become a fixture in my thought process and in my prayers.

1 John 5:14-15 – “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His Will, He hears us.  And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we asked of Him.”

Look at this promise of God!   If we ask according to His will we are HEARD.  If we are heard HE ANSWERS and we get what we are asking for.  How do you improve on that?  That is a catalyst to believing faith and directs prayer to first determining the will of God and then to doggedly stay with the request knowing that no matter how things look around us or the circumstances we are being HEARD and if we are being HEARD He is GRANTING our petition.

Prayer was an essential part of every Mighty Man or Woman in Scripture and has been of every Mighty Man or Woman in history.  They understood that prayer bridges the gulf between time and eternity and they engaged in that activity UNTIL they touched God and God touched them!

May God be with you as you go through your day and inspire you to PRAY!
