Exodus 6:2-4 – “God spoke further to Moses and said to him, “I am the Lord; 3 and I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as God Almighty, but by My name, Lord, I did not make Myself known to them. 4 I also established My covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they sojourned.”
As I read, prayed, and mused on the Word of God today, 4 words filled my thoughts: Name, Blood, Planted, and Hear. That is an odd combination, right?
In Exodus 6:3, God said something to Moses that stops me every time I read it. “I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as El Shaddai. Yet by My Name, ADONAI, did I not make Myself known to them.” Multiple realities flood in as I read this. There are dimensions of God we don’t know. El Shaddai – The Almighty or All-Sufficient One. ADONAI – Lord, Master, Sovereign One. This embodies all God is and His Authority and Ownership of EVERYTHING!
God has been known as provider but not owner! How many live that way today? We seek Him for needs, wants, and desires but fail to recognize His Ownership of our lives. We must will to submit to His will in total surrender.
The Blood: Exodus 12:7, 22-23 gives us the first mention of the blood, although it was seen in Eden. Here, it is applied powerfully. The blood of the sacrificial lamb was applied to the house! The house was a dual reference. It was their covering shelter and a picture of our lives. The doorpost and crossbar represent the entrance and Authority in our lives. Blood covers, purifies, and protects.
Being planted is important. Exodus 15:17 in the song of victory at the Red Sea, Israel acknowledged God as ADONAI, saying, “You bring them in, and PLANT them in the mountain of Your Inheritance.” Too few of us believe in being PLANTED by God. We love our independence and our right to choose what we prefer. Life is a choice, but the only legitimate choice is His purposes. As living stones, we are God’s building material. If we do not stay where He puts us and do what He commissions, we are not just useless but a hindrance. Do we really want to hinder God’s purposes?
Then Hear or Hearing. Mark 4:24-25: Jesus makes a statement and includes an addendum or continuation that we disconnect. He said, “Pay attention to what you hear.” What we hear is rooted in choice: listen or not listen. Then He speaks of measure and having more given or taken away. It is tied to “What we hear.”
Faith comes by HEARING, and hearing comes by the Word of God. That suggests that doubt, questions, and seeds of rebellion come from hearing too. The Word of God enables us to hear God and believe. The word of the flesh enables us to hear the darkness and develop selfishness. So pursue hearing what edifies the Spirit Man. There is always a choice: fear or faith.
If we see God as ADONAI, are covered by the BLOOD, allow ourselves to be PLANTED, and learn to HEAR rightly, we will embrace God’s full victory!
LORD, help us to embrace Your Name, apply Your Blood, become planted, and hear Your Voice.
