Who Is God?

Mark 1:4-42 – “And a leper came to Jesus, beseeching Him and falling on his knees before Him, and saying, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” 41 Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, and *said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” 42 Immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed.”

As I read, prayed, and meditated on the Word of God today, the question “Who is God?” filled my thoughts.   Before you say, “That’s a foolish question,” think about it.   How do we truly see Him?  What place does He truly have in our lives?  Are we awed by Him or puzzled by Him?

When I look at the details of Joseph’s life, I see God as the sovereign designer of life. He used the hate (Satan-inspired, jealousy-produced) to preserve the Messianic seed for mankind’s redemption. He took a slave and elevated him to rulership. He changed a heart of hurt into a reservoir of trust.

When I read Mark 1:40-42, the leper’s words, I see the sovereign, compassionate Creator. The man said, “If You are willing, you can heal me.” ” If you are willing,” not “if you can.”   Jesus is willing, and Jesus can.   In Mark 2:3-11, I see desperate, determined faith to get to Jesus.   The paralytic on the stretcher was lowered through the roof.  There, I see the heart of God in comparison.

When I read Matthew 28:18-20, I see God as the ultimate authority and sovereign. He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.”   God is not only the Creator (the giver of life); He is also the sustainer of life.

Therefore, the question, “Who is God?”   Has to become, “Who is God to me and in me?”   Before we say, “He is LORD,” we must evaluate our lives.   Are we awed by Him?   Really?   Then why do we practice sin?  Why do we yield to bitterness, temptation, and pride?  Why do we not fully invest our entire being to Him and His Kingdom?   Why do we continuously elevate self to the forefront and pursue our purposes over his?

If we are awed by Him… if we see Him as the sovereign Creator and owner of EVERYTHING, we would not dare disobey.   Before you say, “Roy, you are promoting fear.”   I ask, “If God is creator and sustainer of life, how can we not feel the emotion of trepidation and fear in His presence?”  Yet, if we KNOW Him, we also know He is love and compassion-filled with mercy and long-suffering patience.

John 3:16 becomes our inspiration and anchor.  The God who is the sovereign Creator, who could squash us like a bug, loves us enough to die for us. What He asks is not a demand; it asks us to surrender to Him and obey His precepts totally. He is Love, but He is also Holy and Just.

So, Who is God?   Who is He in your life?   The fruit is in your life.  Your fruit either validates your words or negates them.

LORD, we invite you to be LORD of All of our Lives!
