Psalm 62:1-2 – “For God alone I patiently wait; he is the one who delivers me. 2 He alone is my protector and deliverer. He is my refuge; I will not be upended.”
We have all heard or said about something, “Worth waiting for.” But when it comes to God and developing a relationship, we don’t want to wait and often do not wait. We have adopted and are driven by an inner compulsion to act or do. Waiting is anathema to us!
Psalm 62:1-2 – “For God alone I patiently wait…” Most don’t. We may wait, but certainly not patiently. We live hurried lives of doing when God seeks our hearts and trust. Our deadlines are not His! God is God; that means any delay is purposeful, and His work is powerful IF we embrace the principles He presents. It may be part of the pruning process (John 15).
Psalm 63:1-3 describes the person who is totally consumed with God. His presence is the consuming passion of their hearts. They do not long for answers, but HIM! His presence (which reveals His love) is more desired than life itself. Most are clamoring for more in life rather than more life!
Psalm 68:3 stopped me in my tracks. “But the godly are happy; they rejoice before God and are OVERCOME with joy.” Overcome with joy? Jesus said in John 16, referring to this, that our Joy would be full or complete. Our impatience is never more realized than when we find ourselves in a desperate situation.
Psalm 69:1-3 describes a condition that many have known and may now be struggling with.
- The water (trouble) has reached our necks.
- We are sinking and being overwhelmed.
- The recurrent attacks are overpowering us.
- We are exhausted (physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually)
from yelling at God, asking for help.
We frustrate ourselves by begging for help when God says in Matthew 6:33, “Seek FIRST God!” In His presence is peace, power, and provision. God’s desire is expressed in Jesus’ words in John 14-16.
- Seek Him, not our preconceived answers.
- Become one with Him through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
According to John 16:3, the Holy Spirit is our ear to the Throne Room of Heaven. The indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit enables us to see and hear what Heaven is saying and doing.
Wait on the LORD! Wait in the LORD! Wait with the LORD! If we have God, stuff takes care of itself. If we have God, we have an inner knowing (GPS) that guides us. If we have God, stress has no lodging place, and we can live! Most strive to survive rather than thrive, being alive in God.
Make God your goal; He is worth waiting for! Stop stressing; you are not in control! If God is not the consuming passion, then problems, needs, and desires control us. If He is, God becomes bigger than any need, and peace wraps us like a warm blanket on a cold night.
LORD, You are worth waiting for; teach us to wait!
