Psalm 140:12-13 – “I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted and justice for the poor. Surely the righteous will give thanks to Thy Name; the upright will delight in Thy presence.”
As I read, prayed, and meditated on the Word of God today, the first words I read were words of encouragement and revelation. Our text, Psalm 140:12-13, provides incredible inspiration and comfort.
Unpacking that would take a book. Let me briefly address the encouragement and revelation. The Hebrew implication of verse 12 is that God becomes the advocate for the afflicted. He defends them. He becomes their source and protection. Evil lurks everywhere, but God steps between the afflicted and the afflicters! God vindicates the impoverished! That includes more than the monetary. Think of the Beatitudes.
Think of God being our advocate against the charges of the devil. Think of God being our intercessor and lawyer! (That’s what Jesus is doing now!) Hebrews 7-10 gives a powerful overview of what Jesus did in dying for us. Hebrews 10:35-39 gives hope and reason to have confidence. If we keep His work of Redemption in the forefront of our minds, we will never throw away our confidence! We will receive the determination needed and hope to endure!
Psalm 140:13 gives us the most beautiful promise – “The upright will dwell in Thy presence.” What is found in the presence of God? Not the least is Peace, God’s Perfect Peace!
Isaiah 26:3 – “Thou wilt keep him in PERFECT PEACE because his mind is stayed (fixed) on Thee.” In the Peace of God, there is no shaking, no falling, and no failing. There may be difficulty and temporary setbacks, but in His Peace, there is His Power!
God is our advocate! If God is for us, who can be against us?
LORD, help us to live in Your Perfect Peace.
