Psalm 101:3 – “I will set no worthless thing before my eyes.”
Good morning! Something is moving in the heavenly realm and filtering to Earth. That is cause for rejoicing.
As I read, prayed, and pondered the Word of God, the importance of focus became my focus and meditation. Psalm 101:3 is interesting and challenging. “I will set no worthless thing before my eyes.”
The verse expresses David’s intention to actively reject and refuse to entertain anything evil or worthless. He is committing to a conscious decision to not allow such things to occupy his mind or be a focus of his attention, ensuring they have no place in his life. Focus is the key to becoming. The result is seen in verse 4 – “A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will know no evil.”
We need to focus on who God is, His ways and acts, and His dealings with man. In Psalm 103:1-5, we have a listing of who God is and His actions toward us.
1. Pardon (forgiveness) ALL, not some of our iniquities.
2. Healing of ALL, not some of our diseases.
3. Redemption from hell or destruction.
4. Crowns us with His Character and Characteristics. (Transformed into His image in who we are and how we act and interact.)
5. Satisfaction. Interesting – “Your YEARS with good things.” A life of contentment!
6. SO THAT – The reason for it all or the ultimate enablement – “That your youth (vigor) is renewed like the eagle.”
How do we stay focused and press into the promises? Paul addressed that in 1 Timothy 1:19-20 – Do warfare with the prophecies given to you. Take what God said about you prophetically and set your heart to enter that state and become that reality by the help and grace of God. In 1 Timothy 4:14, he reinforced that truth. In verse 15, he said, “Be absorbed in them…”
Focus on who God says you are. Focus on what God has promised. Focus on your purpose. Life is not about you reaching a level of success or achievement, but becoming and being what and who He says you are. It is not about exploits but submission and obedience!
Make the Choice to keep your mind pure and your heart filled with thoughts of God!
