Genesis 12:1-3 – “Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house, To the land which I will show you; 2 And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing; 3 And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” NASB
This story requires almost a lifetime study to do it right, but I want to extract a couple of nuggets from this reality of “Blood Covenant” and the True Covenant Person. We have a government today that has created a “Welfare State” and it’s getting worse.
Taking care of the poor, the sick, the needy, the widows and orphans as well as the family has always been the responsibility of the believer and the church, not the government, but we’ve gotten far away from that. When a person is IN covenant it means that ALL OF YOU is in covenant. All you have, are, and will have, are involved. When we are IN covenant with God, then all that we have belongs to Him, because we belong to Him. He then is “watching over His word to perform it in our lives!”
A Covenant person is a generous person. For a person to walk in covenant they would, of necessity have to be generous. That person gives TOTALLY of themselves. Let me get into an area that will be controversial for some:
TITHING:
The Hebrews, in covenant – – DID NOT tithe (give 10%). Instead, over a three-year period, they TRIPLED TITHED! You see, every week out of his increase came two tenths and over a three-year period another tenth.
- 1st 10th – – For ministry & establishing of the Covenant in the Earth
- 2nd 10th – – Went to the Poor – (Widows and Orphans)
- 3rd 10th – – Was so they could enjoy & worship God – – (Paid their expenses to the feasts, etc. Today that would be conferences & retreats, etc.)
That’s 30% off the top that the covenant man would give.
THEN – if a stranger knocked on his door he would “feed/clothe/house” that individual and send them on their way “cared for”. If you took a coat as a guarantee for a long, when nightfall came you had to take the coat back so he wouldn’t be cold at night! THIS IS GENEROSITY!
It is the heart of God. You could not get near a covenant person without them trying to give you something. WHY? Because of the Covenant and THE BLESSING! There were Biblical guidelines for taking care of people as Paul expounded on in the New Testament, but we need to get back to Biblical principles and away from the government “welfare, dependence mentality”. This is the heart of God!
God bless you as you embark on this day and a new journey in Him!
