Genesis 8:21-22 – “And the LORD smelled the soothing aroma; and the LORD said to Himself, “I will never again curse the ground on account of man, for the intent of man’s heart is evil from his youth; and I will never again destroy every living thing, as I have done.
22 “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night Shall not cease.” NASB
In today’s world, people are worried about so many things that should be left in the hands of God. When I am asked about man destroying the planet, I usually refer to this passage. I believe in being a good steward of everything that God has placed under our care, but I also believe that God is God and is still in control.
We have a powerful promise of God regarding this planet and it is one that gives me peace and prevents me from engaging in the hysteria that many now enamored. God promised, after the flood that He would NEVER again destroy every living thing. If man is bringing about cataclysmic destruction of the planet, this promise is not valid. If that were the truth, then God is not valid, the Bible is invalid, and our Hope is a farce. I do not and will not accept that. God is God and will always be God!
God declared that as long as there is a planet and man on that planet, there will be the seasons. He said we would have the springtime for planting, the summer for harvesting, the winter to enable the earth to recuperate from the stress of producing the crops. He said there would be day and night and none of this would cease.
When God created the planet, He knew that we would have volcanic eruptions, violent weather, extreme heat, and cold in a cyclical fashion. I contend that if we focus on what might be regarding the planet and adopt a view that makes man the decider of the fate of the planet, we strip God of His Deity and Almightiness. Who would serve a God that is inferior to man? He would be no God but a religious crutch with no value.
What we should do is enjoy God’s creation and be wise stewards caring for it prudently but not making the care of it more important than living. We should never treat animals with cruelty, but we must never elevate them to a superior position over the needs of man. God gave them for us to use, enjoy, and even as food, therefore, we not they are the primary focus of God.
The beauty of God’s world is so incredible we could spend our entire lives simply drinking in that beauty and never fully appreciate the intricateness of His design and creation. He knew how many people would inhabit the planet. He knew how many geological disruptions there would be. He knew how many periods of drought and extreme cold or flooding would occur. Nothing, was beyond His knowledge, therefore what He would have us do is ENJOY His creation. It reflects His nature and His character. The beauty in the earth enables us to understand the depth of God’s love for man.
So, today, take some time to stop and smell the roses, drink in the beauty, watch a sunset or sunrise and relax. God is still in control and this planet is going to remain until He says enough. When that time comes it will be replaced with the New Jerusalem and we will be in our final eternal state with Him.
God bless you and have a great day!
