Isaiah 43:1-3 – “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!  2 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you.  3 “For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior;” NASB

All of us face times of trepidation and experience times of deep concern. There are times when we are fearful.  Many of those times we handle the situations reflecting on the promises of God.  We utilize rational thinking or perseverance and receive His peace.  Yet, there are times when we are overwhelmed and need a comforting touch from the Master. 

A few years ago, on the night before I visited an Orthopedic surgeon, I had difficulty sleeping.  During the night the hip pain increased to almost unbearable levels.  I don’t know if it was stress if I was laying wrong, or what the problem was but by 4 AM I was up taking a shower, and getting dressed for my day.  That experience gave me a significant amount of time to pray, meditate on the things of God, and talk to the Father about my situation! 

The two doctors I have seen agreed on the likely ultimate treatment just had differing opinions as to the steps to that achieve that end.  I had been waiting for the time to see the specialist who was supposed to the “the man” regarding hip replacement in this area.  That was his primary specialty.  Did that relieve my anxiety, No!  I was holding on to the Lord for His ultimate and complete healing.  My attitude was that if He chose to use a medical practitioner to accomplish that, I was okay with that.  However, it was not my preference. 

As my spirit calmed down and I read in Isaiah.  I came to Chapter 43 and the words so familiar just leaped off the page at me.  I could hear the Holy Spirit saying, “Son, why are you anxious and allowing an element of fear to enter your heart.  We’ve been through much worse than this and have I ever failed you?”  Of course, the answer is a resounding NO!  He said, “You’ve been through troubled waters even to the point of death and I was there.  You’ve been through the fire where you despaired of life and I was there.  What would make you even consider that I won’t be there this time?” 

It was in a moment of humble repentance, that I cried out to the Lord and peace flooded my heart, mind, and soul.  I did not know what would take place, but I knew that God was in control.  I knew that I was in His hands and as I listen to the direction of His Spirit, I knew that everything was going to be okay!   As I prepared for the evaluation from the “top dog” in the specialty I did so with Complete Peace because I experienced God’s “comfort in a time of trouble.” 

I am always grateful for God’s comfort.  I knew then and know that the peace I that flows out of His love and the prayers of friends are always instrumental in bringing about God’s perfect plan. 

I pray God’s Blessings upon you as you embark on another day’s journey in Jesus! 

John 18:33-38 – “Therefore Pilate entered again into the Praetorium, and summoned Jesus and said to Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” 34 Jesus answered, “Are you saying this on your own initiative, or did others tell you about Me?”  35 Pilate answered, “I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered You to me; what have You done?” 36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm.”  37 Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”  38 Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?” NASB

That is not only a question that Pilate asked but one that has been asked down through the ages and is still being asked today.  Jesus in the previous chapter answered that question – John 17:17- “Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.”

Paul admonished Timothy and the church in 2 Timothy 2:15, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” KJV  

He also taught the Ephesian church the reason and function of the Gift Ministries, in Ephesians 4:11-16, “And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. 14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; 15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love. “

If you find yourself asking this question in your life, consider what Jesus and Paul said.  The Word of God is Truth!  The more we study that word the more stable we become in God’s truth and able we are to recognize truth.  Avail yourself to godly men and women and fellowships capable of equipping you for your service to the Lord and to help you learn truth.  One more thing, learn to rely upon the Holy Spirit for we are told that He will guide us into all truth (John 16:13).  Remember the words of our Lord, John 8:31-33

Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”  Truth, God’s Truth liberates!  Man’s distortions bring into bondage. 

It is my prayer that you will be able to walk in Truth and be free in Jesus as you continue to enjoy this wonderful day!  May you be blessed beyond measure! 

Jeremiah 1:12 – “Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over My word to perform it.” NASB

I have had promises and commitments made to me that for one reason or another did not come to pass.  Sometimes it was due to the lack of credibility of the one making the promise and at other times it was due to some unforeseeable circumstance that prevented them from fulfilling their word.  Yet, with God that Never happens. 

In the Old Testament, we find the powerful words of Balaam when Balak tried to entice him to curse Israel.  Balaam found that he could not, and explained it this way:  Numbers 23:19 – “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? “ NASB

I trust God!  He is Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent!  He does not have the capacity to lie it’s not part of His nature or character.  He is Truth just as He is Love!  Therefore, there is no circumstance or situation wherein God is unable to fulfill His Word.  We may rebel and place ourselves outside His favor but that does not negate His Word nor His ability and willingness to fulfill His Word. 

I grew up being taught that “My word was my bond.”  I was taught that if I committed to something and shook hands on it there was no need for a contract because I had placed “my name, my being, my character, and my integrity” into the promise.  To have done less would have resulted in dire repercussions from my parents as well as my grandparents.  It was unthinkable and unacceptable.

Peter tells us in 2 Peter 1:4, “…He has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.” NIV The greatest promise is Eternal Life through the sacrifice of Jesus.  If that passage was the only promise it would be enough but it’s not the only promise.  The Bible is filled with “promises” to us, as believers.  We know that many either do not know, believe, or receive. 

It is part of the Abundant Life that Jesus said we would have in Him.  I Trust God’s Word because I Trust God!  If He said it, that’s good enough for me!  I encourage you to not only trust God’s Word but invest yourselves in His Word.  Make it as important as natural food and you will be amazed at the change in your life, circumstances, relationships, and understanding.

Colossians 1:19-23 – “For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, 20 and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. 21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight — 23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.”  NKJV

Although it may not be popular in some circles to talk about the shedding of blood and the Cross upon which Jesus died.  That message is the central part of the Gospel and cannot be eliminated. 

We discover in Hebrews 9:22 – “And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.” NKJV.  In Acts 20:28 we read, “Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.”  NKJV.  There are many other references including Romans 3:23-25, 5:8-11, and Revelation 1:5-6 which reference the blood that purchased us from the clutches of sin. 

The fact remains that the Ultimate Sacrifice for the sin of mankind was the blood of Jesus and it was shed on the cruel cross.  In His Virgin birth, Sinless life, Sacrificial death, Supernatural resurrection, Divine ascension, and Definite return, He has Purchased our salvation.  He suffered for us that we might live for Him and have Abundant Life, Eternally!

            We can never forget the Cross and dare not forget the cleansing power of the blood of Jesus.  We dare not forget the price He paid to redeem us from the bondage of sin and the ownership of the devil.  Through the Cross, he transferred us from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Light.  If we always hold before us the Cross and what He did, we will find ourselves much less likely to succumb to temptation and more likely to remain Thankful and live with an Attitude of Gratitude walking in victory. 

His blood makes our souls spotless and as clean as the pure driven snow.  Though our sins are as scarlet they shall be white as snow is the promise of Scripture.  That blood, that cross, that sacrifice brings us a Peace which Passes All Understanding and causes us to Rest in a way that cannot be explained and virtually impossible to adequately describe. 

If you are struggling today, remember the Cross and I believe it will give you the encouragement to rise up and run to Him.  In His arms, you will realize not only Peace but the Power of His Grace to overcome!

Matthew 5:6 – “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”  NASB

Through the years I’ve purchased many things that came with various “guarantees”.  Some of them were legitimate and good, others were not worth the paper they were written on.  Money-back guarantees get a lot of attention and frequently will be a selling point for a particular product.  However, even those prove to not be completely accurate.  They frequently fail to let you know that you have to pay for the shipping and sometimes are charged a restocking fee and by the time you are done you’ve paid almost what you did to purchase the worthless item, to begin with. 

I’ve had people give me “guarantees” with their word only to find that their word was not worth very much because they either had no intention of fulfilling their promise or were not willing to make the sacrifice required to do so.  So, guarantees are only worth as much as the person or entity behind them.

That brings me to the verse above – It Is Rock Solid!  It is a guarantee made by our Lord Jesus Himself and you can take it to the bank.  It works all the time, every time, and anytime.  It works everywhere and under any conditions and is backed up by the integrity of the Son of God!  I’ve had people tell me regarding their church or pastor, “I’m not being fed.”  I have several thoughts regarding that statement:

• If that is true that there is no spiritual nourishment coming from your church or pastor, why are you there complaining?
• Why aren’t you feasting on the spiritual nourishment that the Lord has provided in the Written Word and through fellowship with Him through the Holy Spirit?
• Are you hungry and thirsty, spiritually?  If so, the Lord has promised that you would be satisfied.  Therefore, either He did not tell the truth, or you are not truly “hungry” or “thirsty”.

I am by no means suggesting that people hop from church to church. I have discovered that frequently the problem does not lie in the church or pastor but the individual who is issued the complaint.  That is not to excuse any preacher that does not feed the sheep or any church that does not place God first and foremost. 

I suggest that the first step is to allow the Holy Spirit to shine the spotlight of God upon our hearts to be sure that the problem does not lie in us.  That being said, if I hunger and thirst for righteousness, I will be satisfied.  There is NEVER a lack of Spiritual Nourishment available to the “hungry” and “thirsty” soul.  It may mean that we have to become more than babies and feed ourselves rather than expect someone to spoon-feed us.  Yet, my purpose for this devotional is not to castigate but encourage you.  “Seek first, the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and you will be satisfied and grow spiritually.” 

As you grow, you become able to assist others along the way in their spiritual development.  There is no famine for the Word of God as long as we have the Bible and the Holy Spirit.  We are promised that He will not only “teach” us but “guide” us into all truth. 

Be encouraged and allow your spiritual hunger and thirst to become so intense that you cannot wait until the next feeding time, either on your own, via your local congregation, or through fellowship with other believers.  God wants you to be spiritually satisfied or fed and filled.

Psalms 27:4-6 – “One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD And to meditate in His temple. 5 For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; In the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock. 6 And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, And I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.” NASB

The longer I live, the more things I encounter in life, and the more experiences I have with and in the Lord, the more I recognize the times and need for God to occasionally take me from the front lines of battle and hide me in His Pavilion Tent. 

In the battle, the King would have a tent in the middle of the Battlefield, and he would take the weary there for strategy.  God does that in our lives spiritually.  There are times, we are so battle fatigued, weak, discouraged, disillusioned, and even depressed that we need to an infusion of fresh vision and that’s where we find it.  He takes us from the “heat of the battle” into his Pavilion Tent and “refreshes us”. 

We are concealed from the enemy, untouchable by the powers of hell and from there we receive the infusion of strength, power, courage, and anointing to go back out into the battle and win the victory.  Sadly, sometimes we don’t hear the call to come aside for rest and try to be martyrs and push ourselves beyond the limit when He is calling for us to come inside and “rest”.  

Some feel guilty, saying – “There is too much to be done,” and “I must work while it is yet day for the night comes when no man can work.” They press on until exhaustion takes over and we lose our strength and are overcome by the forces of hell.  That’s not God’s way and never has been.  Burning out for Jesus is a good sounding statement but not very productive.

Learn to listen to your body, your mind, your spirit, your heart, and hear the voice of the Spirit of God inviting you to come into His Pavilion Tent and be refreshed.  The time spent there if it is an hour, a day, a week, a month, or a year will prove to be far more valuable than staying in the battle when you are no longer at your optimum.  Don’t let the devil shame you into thinking that you are somehow being lazy or slothful but realize that it is the Lord’s design to “refresh” you to make you “better than ever” for the battle. 

If there is one thing that I have learned is that we need to enter the rest wherein the weary are made to rest and when we come out, we are not only refreshed we are emboldened and empowered in a new way.  That is part of learning to lean on Jesus. 

Therefore, as you go into the rest of this week I suggest it might be that now might be a time you need to “rest in the Lord” and allow the battle to rage without you in it.  You will have the opportunity to reenter and to do so with renewed vision, strength, grace, anointing, and power.

2 Corinthians 10:1-6 – “Now I, Paul, myself urge you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ — I who am meek when face to face with you, but bold toward you when absent! 2 I ask that when I am present I need not be bold with the confidence with which I propose to be courageous against some, who regard us as if we walked according to the flesh. 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, 4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. 5 We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, 6 and we are ready to punish all disobedience, whenever your obedience is complete.”  NASB

The writings of the apostle Paul are always powerful and have an immediate impact on life and living for the believer.  He identifies a much-needed lifestyle in this particular passage that will enable us to be “more than conquerors through Christ.”

1. We live (walk) in the flesh – – We are humans nothing else we can do.
2. We do not war according to the flesh – – We don’t fight with our fists, swords, or guns but we have different weapons (as believers) to use in our warfare.
3. Our weapons are not flesh weapons but spiritual weapons able to destroy the “strongholds” of the devil.
4. With those weapons, we destroy every argument, senseless speculations, non-essential arguments, demonic attacks, and everything that attempts to exalt itself above Christ.
5. We take Every Thought Captive to the obedience of Christ.

The last one is of particular importance.  I’ve told people for years; you cannot stop thoughts from coming but you can stop them from finding a lodging place in your mind.  You do not have to let them stay.  You do not have to entertain them.  You do not have to dwell on them. You can dismiss them and cause your mind to come into submission to the Lordship of Christ and under the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit. 

It’s not mind over matter or mind control, it is simply making a conscious decision to think on things above and not beneath.  It is a conscious decision to seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness.  It is a conscious decision to praise Him rather than dwell on negative, destructive, or tempting thoughts.  You are not what you think you are but you are what you think!  It is up to us to make the decision to allow the Holy Spirit to set a guard at not only our lips but our minds to keep our thoughts pure and our words gracious. 

If we do this, we will find that we live less troubled by what is happening around us.  We live with less doubt when faced with potential problems or disasters and need God to step on the scene in a major way.  We live with a greater sense of peace because we are focused on that which is above, for God is not the author of confusion.  Therefore, let the peace of God rule your hearts as you bring every thought captive to Christ. 

May this day be a day of “perfect peace” as you walk in Him.  Blessings as you come to the end of your week in His service.

James 1:12-18 – “Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. 15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. 16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. 18 In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.”  NASB

Through the years I’ve seen new believers take off like gangbusters and charge headlong into the battle against the forces of hell with a dagger when they needed a sword.  Their zeal was inspiring if not humorous, then I would see them encounter the full-scale battle and fizzle and wither under the pressures of the intense warfare.  They had zeal, but not wisdom.  They had the desire, but not the experience.  They had superficial knowledge but were not deeply established in the truth. 

James tells us that it is the “blessed” man that perseveres under trial and that once he has completed the test the prize is great.  He warns us regarding temptation not attribute it to God because God tempts no person.  Instead, temptation comes from within as much as from without.  It comes from the condition of heart, immaturity, and undeveloped character.  It springs forth from the unseen and often unknown lust within the heart and when it is given birth to it brings forth sin and when sin grows to its full maturity brings forth death. 

If we recognize that temptation is the identification of an inside problem, we are better equipped to handle it. We know to run as fast as we can to the Cross and cry out for mercy and grace.  He tells us that every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father above who never changes but is consistent, steady, and steadfast.  That God will guide us into truth, and it will not be wishy-washy but solid and stable. 

As we become established in His truth we are able to walk out His will in our daily lives. We are better equipped to face and resist temptation, endure the tests and trials, and overcome the onslaught of the enemy. We become fruits (examples) of righteousness for all to see, thus point to Christ by our lives not just our words.

Growing up is not instantaneous in the natural or spiritual.  Wisdom is not gained by taking a pill or reading a book.  Experience is not achieved by hearing stories of victories.  Life is a matter of living and living. Living is to be done hand in hand with the Lord Jesus Christ through the power of the Cross and under the covering of the blood of Jesus.  It is by His Grace!  Remember, that the trial, test, temptation, trouble, or tribulation is only momentary in the eternal scheme of things.  Hold on to what you have learned in Christ and you will walk out the other side in victory!

1 John 2:1-2 – “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.”  NASB

There are times in life when each of us needs an advocate or someone to speak on our behalf and plead our case.  If we try to plead it ourselves we will either come across as self-righteous, self-serving, untruthful, or unbelievable. 

Having someone else plead it for us often gives credibility and sheds light on the matter that would have otherwise been missed, not heard, or not given the opportunity to receive a logical, reasonable, and honest evaluation.  This is the case regarding our lives and the slips, stumbles, falls, mistakes, errors, and sins we commit along the way in life.  We can and should run to the Cross and cry out for mercy in true repentance, but it helps to have a good lawyer.

We have such a one in Jesus.  Jesus is the one who paid our debt.  He bore our sins on the Cross.  He shed His blood that we could be free from the bondage of sin and become part of the family of God, born again into the Kingdom of light out of the kingdom of darkness.  His presence in the court of heaven carries great weight and credibility and we can rest assured that if we come to Him out of a truly repentant heart, He will serve as our Advocate with the Father and make intercession for us. 

Of all the lawyers that have ever lived, none is better than King Jesus!  I go through the day with confidence that if I err I can run to Him and He will come to my defense.  I go to bed at night knowing that I can and do lay all my cares on Him because He cares for me.  I wake up in the morning knowing that I have the best Attorney in Heaven or on Earth on my side and go in peace, knowing that if my human frailty fails me and I come to Him in “true repentance”, He will plead my case with the Father!  He has never lost a case yet and never will.  I Have Peace Knowing that I have a Good Lawyer!

It is my prayer and desire that you will enjoy God’s blessings as you go through the day!  May the Lord bless you and keep you free from sin and wrong, but if you do sin remember you have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous!

1 Kings 19:1-10 – “Now Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. 2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, ” So may the gods do to me and even more, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.” 3 And he was afraid and arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. 4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree; and he requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is enough; now, O LORD, take my life, for I am not better than my fathers.” 5 He lay down and slept under a juniper tree; and behold, there was an angel touching him, and he said to him, “Arise, eat.” 6 Then he looked and behold, there was at his head a bread cake baked on hot stones, and a jar of water. So he ate and drank and lay down again. 7 The angel of the LORD came again a second time and touched him and said, “Arise, eat, because the journey is too great for you.” 8 So he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mountain of God.  9 Then he came there to a cave and lodged there; and behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 10 He said, “I have been very zealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”  NASB

If you have just followed the directions of the Holy Spirit and won a miraculous victory in the Lord you dare not let self, and fear creep in and destroy your confidence.  That’s where Elijah was.  He “feared” Jezebel more than he rejoiced in the power of God and that is why he was standing in the cave, hiding and saying, “Woe is me, I’m the ONLY ONE LEFT!”   

He should have been emboldened and ready for the next challenge, but he wasn’t.  He should have did as Jesus and after his victory withdrew to be alone with God and allow the Holy Spirit to engrave in his heart the nature of God. He had done what God said. He had seen the victory. Then he allowed “fear” to fill his heart and saw the devil bigger than God and ran to hide feeling sorry for himself, justifying it by saying, “I’M THE ONLY ONE!”  That is not only self-righteous, but it is also destructive thinking.  God made it clear that he was NOT the only one and that He (God) was still in control.

We are the messengers and God uses us to bring about His accomplishments on this earth.  We depend on His power and presence to stand against the enemy and therefore need to always remember that if He sends us, He will protect us, provide for us, empower us, and equip us for the job.  Therefore, we have No Reason to Fear because if they kill us, we win and if they don’t, we win, but either way, We Win! 

Our job is to do what He says, nothing more and nothing less.  We are to be where He wants us to be, when He wants us there, doing what He wants us to do, and leave the results in His hands.  Rejoice that He has chosen you to do whatever it is that He has set before you No Matter What That Might Be, great or small.  It is for the Kingdom of God!  It is important and it is backed by the Omnipotence of Heaven!  As you begin your week, go, knowing that you are “led by the Spirit of God” and He will not guide you wrong.
