Nehemiah 4:6 – “So we built the wall, and the entire wall was joined together up to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.” NKJV
Some people are always surprised when people unite and commit their time, finances, and energy to accomplish a task at just how efficiently and quickly the work is completed. We should not be, for we have record after record of it in the Bible, history, and probably in our lives. I grew up in a rural setting in East Texas, and when the neighbors decided to accomplish something, it happened. Everyone contributed their particular and unique skill to the task, no matter the task, and usually in a very short time.
The Bible tells us in Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” NKJV Jesus told us in Matthew 19:26 – “But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” NKJV
He also advised us in Mark 9:23 – “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” NKJV We read in Deuteronomy 32:30-31 – “How could one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, And the LORD had surrendered them? 31 For their rock is not like our Rock,” NKJV
It is clear from the biblical message that when people set their minds to accomplishing something, they can do it both positively and negatively, as in Genesis 11:5-9 – “But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. 6 And the LORD said, “Indeed the people are one, and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them. 7 Come, let Us go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city. 9 Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.” NKJV
God made man such a dynamic and unique creature that he can organize, improvise, and utilize those things at his disposal to accomplish great things. When those energies are channeled toward God, mighty miracles transpire, and great good is brought to humanity.
When those energies are channeled to selfish interests and align with the devil’s agenda, great evil and destruction fall on humanity. In the story of Nehemiah, we find that against all odds and facing severe opposition, they joined the wall to half its height in a very short time because of their “commitment.” As stated, “the people had a mind to work.”
Do you wonder what the church would be like if the congregation adopted this attitude? What about your family or company if all the members adopted this attitude? Even further, what about this country if, instead of seeking a handout from the government, Everyone adopted the “let’s work mentality” and Do What We See Needs to Be Done without concern for who gets the credit or reward? It would be nothing short of amazing, and I believe it would bring about one of the greatest revivals we have ever seen to this point in history.
Instead of sitting back and waiting until everyone else does it, let us do it. He that knows to do good and does it, not it is sin. Let us stop sinning, engage in what the Lord places before us, and adopt the attitude of Nehemiah’s people, “a mind to work.” Let us demand it of our leaders, both secular and spiritual. Let us demand it of ourselves on every level. I await this move’s outcome and know it will be powerful.
Blessings as you go through your day!
