IF YOU ARE WORRIED, GOD HAS A CURE…

Matthew 6:25-34 – “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  26 ” Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?  27 “And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?  28 “And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil, nor do they spin 29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.  30 “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!  31 “Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’  32 “For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.  33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”  NASB

I remember years ago when we got our first television set, and my dad loved to watch the “Hit Parade,” “Grand Old Opry,” and other shows with old songs or some current at that time.  One song I remember well was Doris Day singing “Que Sera, Sera” – Whatever Will Be Will Be.

In my mind, I fast-forwarded to the “Peace Movement” and then the “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” crowd.  Yet, the more I study the Bible, the more I realize that while God is in God, sometimes our choices put us at risk.  I believe that some lives are shortened because of the wrong decisions of others and were not God’s “Perfect Plan,” but the sin of man was the problem.

My mother was a worrier.  She loved the Lord and believed God could do anything, but she worried.  She spent far more sleepless nights while I was in Vietnam than I did.  Only eternity will reveal what it was like for me. It is a period that I do not talk about!  I have spent sleepless nights worrying about my children worrying!  The Holy Spirit would frequently take me to the “spiritual woodshed,” but it was costly if I allowed worrying to gain a foothold.

Jesus, here in Matthew, gives us the Cure for Worry!  Read it and allow it to sink in.  He leaves nothing out and reminds us of how God’s care and keeping even takes care of the birds and flowers. Why would we even think He would not care for a creature made in His image and likeness, a creature that He had come to die for to bring Eternal life?

The key is found in (vv. 33-34) and should become the cornerstone of our lives, thoughts, actions, and plans.  If we follow this prescription, I can guarantee you that Worry will Never gain a foothold in your life.  I did not guarantee you that you would not have problems, just that you would no longer be the victim of worry!

I love the song by Andre Crouch – “Through It All,” because it says so much about the process of life and the purposes of God for our lives.  We learn, yes, learn, to “trust God.”  It is not something that is inherited but a learned character trait.  We learn “trust” through experience.

When we face problems, and God gives us a solution, Trust is developed over time.  God is constantly dealing with the devil’s lie that we are not worthy of God’s blessings.  Of course, we are not, in and of ourselves.  But we are not coming to the Throne of God in our worthiness but in that of Jesus Christ!

We are coming under the covering of the Blood shed on the Cross for our Redemption.  We are coming as Children of the Most High God through the sacrifice of Jesus.  It is not our merit but His that gains us access to God’s Promises, Power, Protection, and Provision.  So, when worry raises its ugly head, remind yourself, the devil, and the imp of worry that you belong to God and refuse to participate because God is our strength, source, and sustenance…

As you go through each day, know that God will Never Forsake you, nor will He ever Leave You!  You are part of the family of God, and as you “Seek FIRST…… God and His Kingdom,” ALL THESE THINGS you need will be added to you by the Grace and Power of God!

That makes me want to jump up and begin to shout!  God bless you as you go through this day in His Love!
