THE TIME TO BE DISOBEDIENT TO AUTHORITY…..

Acts 4:18-20 – “So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. 20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”  NKJV

 Spiritual Blog - God's Laws

In today’s world, as predicted by Scripture, Christians are being assaulted politically and legally by government agencies, groups, and individuals.  Prayer has been banned from public schools and many public institutions, buildings and activities.  The Bible is taboo in many places within our society.  We are told we cannot ‘name the name of Jesus’ lest we offend others of different faiths although they are not banned from proselytizing in the name of their religion or god.  We seem to have come to a time when there is an open attempt to ‘silence’ Christians, ‘censor’ the Christian message, and ‘control’ what preachers can or cannot preach from their pulpits.  The Bible describes these conditions as part of the ‘last days’ and it will only intensify as we near the time of the Lord’s return.

I have people tell me biblically I am forbidden to ‘speak against’ what government does and suggest that I am to ‘obey’ apparently blindly to whatever edict is issued for the ruling authorities.  I question that and if I used no other scripture to reject it the above passage would be sufficient.   There is a time to ‘disobey’ authority and that is when what they are instructing or demanding violates the Word of God or the Spirit of God.  The disciples were not rebels in the sense they went out looking for trouble but were so completely committed to God they were willing to put their lives on the line to obey God and considered any disobedience to man’s edicts as an expected occurrence when forced to choose.

I do not intend this devotional to be political but warn than those in politics when used as tools of the devil will pass laws and issue edicts that violate God’s Word and when they do we have to make a choice.  They may take my physical freedom and incarcerate me. They may take my possessions and render me a pauper.  They may take my physical life but they cannot take away my eternal destiny nor will they ever ascend above God’s authority.  If in the course of events, God so chooses to allow them to do that I will still trust Him and seek to obey Him.  I have made my choice to ‘follow Jesus’ wherever and into whatever He may lead.

Spiritual Blog - Time to Disobey

I like Peter’s response. It was not disrespectful but to the point and factual.  He made no pretense or showed no hesitation in advising the powers that he stood before making them decide if they should have more power and authority than God.  He then informed them that all he and the others could do was ‘speak’ the things they had seen and heard.  They purposed in their hearts to obey God and so should we. If that means we violate legislation, edicts, and laws that violate God’s Word, Precepts, and Principles then so be it.  My heart cries to “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness” in all things and at all times.

May God be with you as you face this day and all your tomorrows!

OFFENSE AND OFFENDERS…..

Luke 17:1-4 – “Then He said to the disciples, “It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come!  2 It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.  3 Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.  4 And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him.” NKJV

 Spiritual Blog - Millstone

Jesus makes a powerful statement regarding ‘offenses’ from which each of us can and should benefit.  He said it is IMPOSSIBLE that no offenses come.  The opportunity for offense is ever present and most of us, at some time, TAKE OFFENSE at something the human psyche and ego almost guarantee it.  It is not TAKING NO OFFENSE that we should hear but how we respond to an offense.  I do suggest that we have to choose to be offended for offense to take root but let’s look at the situation when an offense is present.

Jesus warned that although ‘offenses’ will come we are not to be the ‘offender’.  He presents it in such a graphic picture that we should all carefully weigh our words, deeds, and actions.  He especially conveys how damaging it is to offend a child but does not leave it there and applies it to everyone.  We know from scripture that we are to be careful in damaging a ‘weaker brother’ but biblically dealing with ‘offense’ is a lost art in most of the church today.  Sadly, too often we are like the world in how we respond.

I want you to notice that Jesus instructed us that if a brother sins against us (does us wrong) we should ‘rebuke’ him not harbor it and talk of it to everyone who will listen.  We are not to divide brothers and sisters with our tale bearing but take it to the individual directly and personally.  No a text message is not the way to handle it.  If that person ‘repents’ we are to ‘forgive’.  If they repeatedly do it and repeatedly come saying I repent’ we are to repeatedly ‘forgive’.  That is a very difficult task for most of us.

I have had people say to me, “But I can’t forget.”  No, forgiveness does not mean you have ‘divine amnesia’ it means you make the choice to release them from the offense or wrong.  You make the choice to place it in God’s hands.  Separating ‘sin’ from ‘sinner’ is not always easy and enduring relationships require ‘trust’.  If I repeatedly wrong you and repeatedly say ‘I repent’ biblically you are to ‘forgive’ me but my actions will severely damage the ‘trust factor’.  I have found that I can ‘love’ someone biblically and yet find it not conducive to associate with them.  I heard a very godly older lady when challenged that she was directed by Scripture to ‘like someone’ say, “NO!  The Bible says I have to love you it did not say I had to like you.”  I thought there are many layers to that statement and the heart of it goes to separating the ‘sin’ from the ‘sinner’ and ‘compatibility’.  I have observed that some personalities are not compatible and while there can be mutual respect and Christian love it might be in the best interest of both parties to be in different circles.

Love and forgiveness are choices!  I know that sometimes I offend although I never want to.  I know that sometimes my objective, intent, and purpose is misunderstood no matter how I try to convey my true heart in the matter.  I am passionate about many things and in that passion there is the possibility of taking a stance that someone can and does take offense.  While I may continue to believe that which resulted in the offense’ I do not want to be ‘offensive’.  I do not compromise my convictions nor do I expect anyone else to but I will readily ask forgiveness for being offensive.  I would rather be the one potentially ‘offended’ than to be the ‘offender.’  Know this; if I say or do something to ‘offend’ you I am open to your rebuke.  If your offense is that you do not believe what I have said is true I will attempt to explain. If it is based on ideology I will regret having offended but do not ask me to change my personal convictions nor will I ask you.  It is important to know the difference between ‘disagreement’ in philosophy and belief and ‘offense’ or ‘wrong’.  Failure on that front will result in expecting people to complete vacate their beliefs and conviction in the interest of political correctness and that is not what the Bible is talking about.    If you are ‘wronged’ or you perceive you have been ‘wronged’ go to that person and lay out what you perceive allowing them opportunity to clear the air and if necessary repent.

May God be with you as you go through your day!

THERE IS POWER IN WORSHIP – – Part 2…..

2 Samuel 6:2 – “And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, whose name is called by the Name, the LORD of Hosts, who dwells between the cherubim.”  NKJV

Spiritual Blog - Warfare

As stated in the last devotional post I want to discuss ways in which we can Worship and Praise our God the LORD of Hosts.

SINGING – – I believe the Bible teaches that singing produces a Power of God used to crush the spiritual enemies of our souls.  As we sing we are instructed to use psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in our hearts.  In the Hebrew ‘sacrifices of joy’ is used to describe the ‘war cry’ of soldiers preparing for battle.  It was a ‘shout of confidence’ borne out of the belief that the battle was already won.  In 2 Chronicles 13:14-16 in the battle between Judah and Israel we read, “as the men of Judah SHOUTED, it came to pass.”  In Psalm 149:6-9 there are two weapons identified that God uses to destroy the enemy:  A two-edged sword and high praises.

LIFTING THE HANDS – – This was done routinely in worship and was practiced in battle as is witnessed in Exodus 17:9-11 in the war against the Amalekites (type of the flesh) when Moses lifted his hands Joshua prevailed but when he lowered them the enemy prevailed so Aaron and Hur held up the hands of Moses until Israel prevailed.  If you understand this as an act of worship not a ritual then it has meaning, purpose and power.

CLAPPING THE HANDS – – This was an expression celebrating the victory God had given over the enemy as seen in Psalm 47:1.  It was done to ‘honor God’ and is a ‘hissing’ or ‘mocking’ of the enemy.  Again if it is understood as an act of worship not a ritual it has significance and power.

STANDING BEFORE GOD – – The only position not mentioned in the Psalms with reference to worship is sitting.  I am not saying you cannot worship sitting but referencing that there is reason and purpose in standing united before God worshipping and praising Him.

DANCING – – In Exodus 15:20 we find Miriam leading the entire nation in a dance before the Lord.  In Psalm 149:3; 150:4 there is the command for God’s people to praise Him in the dance.  We find that David danced before the Lord with all His might.  While some might find that less than dignified or proper as did David’s wife, God found it pleasing and blessed it.  If it is truly worship not form or show it has purpose, meaning, and power!

We find in Psalm 110 the visual of God crushing His enemies under His feet and in Romans 16:20 we learn that ‘the God of Peace will crush the devil under our feet…”

SHOUTING – – Now I’m in trouble with some but it is in the Bible and has purpose and place.

In true worship there is an atmosphere for miracles and we are told that God ‘inhabits’ the praises of His people.  Praise moves us into His presence and His presences, produces the supply of our needs.  There is power in worship both to uplift us into His presence and to combat the enemy of our soul.

May God be with you as you go through this day!

THERE IS POWER IN WORSHIP….

2 Samuel 6:2 – “And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, whose name is called by the Name, the LORD of Hosts, who dwells between the cherubim.”  NKJV

 Spiritual Blog - Worship

How people worship is such a personal matter that I realize any ideas I advance may conflict with the way some engage in the activity of worship.  That being said, I do believe that God is ‘restoring’ things to the Body of Christ and worship is a key element in our relationship with Him.  I have long told people to follow the dictate of your heart in how you worship but be careful not to impose upon God what you prefer rather than following what He desires.  Just because I do it one way does not mean that is the only way it is the way I do it at this time.

There are many names ascribed to God in Scripture but the one that is used in distinct relationship to His Glory is the “LORD of Hosts”.  That name does not appear in the Pentateuch and is particularly associated with the Worship of the Tabernacle of David [2 Samuel 6:2, 18; 7:8, 26, 27].  In reading the above passage we find that in the original language this refers to the Ark of the Covenant being where the Name of the LORD was called upon or invoked.  That act of worship was done continuously on Mt. Zion after the Ark was brought there.  I suggest that this is God’s ‘Royal Name’ or His ‘Throne Name’ as we see in Isaiah 6:3, 5. This is the name by which God is called as He sits upon the Heavenly Throne.  In Zechariah 14:16-17 it is the name given for the King.  This is the name associated with the Shekinah Glory of God which was demonstrated between the Cherubim of the Ark.  This name has very strong military overtones as seen in Psalm 24:8, 10 where God is identified as the Caption of the Armies which are victorious in battle!

As we gather corporately to worship Him we find there is power and authority in the process.  It is important to know what happens when we worship the “LORD of Hosts.”  As I examine God’s Holy Writ I find that as we worship in the ‘Beauty of Holiness’ and ‘Spirit and Truth’ His Glory is released into our presence.  It effectively becomes a weapon that destroys and consumes the enemy and brings a healing and wholeness to us individually and collectively.  It brings confusion and fear to the camp of the enemy.  I believe this is illustrated beautifully in Joshua 6 when the Children of Israel were marching around Jericho; they were to march ‘until’ the time to shout in triumph before the “LORD of Hosts”.  The walls were still up, the enemy entrenched as they marched but when the time came to ‘shout’ in triumph the sound of the trumpet and shout became a ‘rereward’ which by context and definition indicates ‘gathering to destroy or consume’.  In Isaiah 58:8 we are told, “The Glory of the Lord shall be your rereward.”

  • God’s Glory is The Power.
  • The People became manifestations of His Glory as we are in Jesus.

As we worship, we become a gathered people’, a ‘gathered company’ whose worship becomes warfare to destroy the enemy.  In Numbers 4:23 we find that those appointed as priests were to ‘enter in to perform the service’ or literally ‘fight a warfare’.  In 1 Peter 2:9 we are informed that we, believers, are a ‘Kingdom of Priests’.  Therefore, it is our privilege and duty to ‘fight a warfare’ through praise.

I want to discuss how we can Worship & Praise the Lord so for the sake of time and space I will pause here and pick this up in the next post.  So until then, may God be with you guarding and guiding your footsteps.  Blessings!

ARE WE THERE YET????

Luke 21:7-19 – “So they asked Him, saying, “Teacher, but when will these things be? And what sign will there be when these things are about to take place?”

8 And He said: “Take heed that you not be deceived. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and, ‘The time has drawn near.’ Therefore do not go after them.  9 But when you hear of wars and commotions, do not be terrified; for these things must come to pass first, but the end will not come immediately.”

10 Then He said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.  11 And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven.  12 But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name’s sake.  13 But it will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony.  14 Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer; 15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist.  16 You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death.  17 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake.  18 But not a hair of your head shall be lost.  19 By your patience possess your souls.” NKJV

Spiritual blog - Pestilence

It appears from scripture that the last days will be earmarked by broad deception, geological upheaval, commercial calamities such as famine, and disease running rampant and unchecked in ‘pestilence’.

pes·ti·lence noun archaic – –  fatal epidemic disease, especially bubonic plague.

I recall David Wilkerson predicting the disease part, years ago and while many somewhat believed him most could not truly envision it happening here, after all this is America and we would somehow be immune, at least in our minds.  It is still difficult to wrap our heads around the outbreak of diseases that could turn our world so dark with the ravages that millions die.  Yet, when I think about almost 17 years ago with standing in my back yard in Euless, Texas I saw an open vision in the middle of the day.  Without going into the full details which I did in my book and have in church numerous times, I saw incredible destruction in our land and it looked like European cities during WWII.  I saw troops (not American) in the streets and the feebleness of many churches and ministers in the face of the disaster.  I also saw the Body of Christ rising in a new form and becoming incredibly powerful and effective.  I saw destruction and victory side by side.

Today we have diseases coming across our southern borders that are killing children, infecting families, and causing us to fight diseases we long though conquered.  With the international influx of people including those with or who have been exposed to EBOLA and the threat of terrorism America is trembling as the darkness looms.  The Bible talked about the last days as ‘perilous times’ and while we may not have envisioned how bad that might be we are likely about to experience it firsthand.

THE ANSWER – – Is not a political one although right politics would enhance what we try to do, it is a spiritual one.  GOD is our source of strength, our source of wisdom, our source of guidance, our source of protection, our source of power, and our source of peace.  In Him we live and move and have our being.  Through Christ we can do all things!  The hour is darkening but the light is becoming brighter for those who will LOOK UP, LIFT UP their hearts, and SEEK FIRST the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness.

God bless you as you go through your dayDo not go in fear but faith!  Do not go in despair but hope!  God bless you richly is may pray and guide your thoughts, deeds, words, and lives!   BLESSINGS!

THE LAST DAYS – – Part 3 …..

Genesis 49:1 – “Then Jacob summoned his sons and said, “Assemble yourselves that I may tell you what will befall you in the days to come.”  NASU

Spiritual Blog - last Days

As we further examine this we find a two-fold situation being revealed.  We realize that being ‘alive’ we have a greater capacity to perform, experience, and enjoy than an inanimate stone.  Also, being ‘alive’ we have the ability to choose, resist, reject, and even rebel against what the Spirit of God and God’s master builders are attempting.

I am totally convinced that the Bible predicts a ‘Great Harvest’ in the Last Days and I believe there could well be more people saved between now and the end of the age than have been up until the present time.  I believe that coming to the world is revival, renewal, and restoration.  So, if God has declared and promised a HARVEST there will be a harvest, BUT that harvest must not only be ‘gathered’ it must be ‘garnered’ into the house. The House is not NATURAL but SPIRITUAL and I believe it can be seen as the Church of Jesus Christ!

In the natural, a house is where someone lives and the Church (people) is God’s House.  Christianity is more than heaven or hell its larger purpose is to show forth God’s Glory for God wants COMMUNION with man His creation.

Psalms 84:4, 10-11 – “How blessed are those who dwell in Your house! They are ever praising You. Selah. 10 For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside  I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. 11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” NASU

Psalms 92:13-14 – “Those who are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.  14 They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing,”  NKJV

Spiritual Blog - Planted

Let me emphasize a few things here:

  • If we are PLANTED we can be developed and established so that we are fruitful throughout the entirety of our lives.
  • If we are PLANTED we can be fitly framed together, able to supply that which we were designed to supply. (Ephesians 2:21-22; 4:16)
  • If we are PLANTED we can avoid becoming a piece of twisted lumber that has no use or function in the building.
  • If we are PLANTED we have authority because we are under authority and in divine order.

Therefore, divine order is more than a religious cliché or hierarchy it is an indispensable element in the purposes of God for these LAST DAYS.  Divine Order is borne out of relationship rather than some prescribed set of rules.  Satan cannot compete with divine order because through the FINISHED WORK of Christ he is both ‘defeated’ and ‘disarmed’ and in the presence of one who is in divine order he is impotent.

Spiritual Blog - harvest

There is a Harvest coming!  We’ve discussed the ingathering but there is another aspect often overlooked or ignored.  We are going to see a shift from just preaching “come and be saved” to “come bow your knee for Jesus is King.”  The LAST DAYS MESSAGE will trumpet COMMITMENT.  Matthew 6:33 will be a way of life not a spiritual ideal.  We are going to see communities of covenant rather than religious legalism.  There is going to be a pruning, purging, purifying and shaking in the Church of today and all that can be shaken will be shaken separating the wheat from the chaff.  In this Harvest reaping will take place.  Reaping of what has been sown – – Good and Evil.

That is not to be feared but to be cheered for God is going to expose that which needs to be exposed, promote that which needs to be promoted, tear down that which needs to be torn down, and build up that which needs to be built up.  Times are changing and you will see the evidence soon.

God bless you as you turn your focus upon the Lord and allow the Holy Spirit to prepare you for THE LAST DAYS!   God be with you in your journey!

THE LAST DAYS – – Part 2…..

Genesis 49:1 – “Then Jacob summoned his sons and said, “Assemble yourselves that I may tell you what will befall you in the days to come.”  NASU

Spiritual Blog - Last Days

I do not know if I whetted your appetite, stirred up your anger, or completely lost you in my last post about the Last Days but let’s continue and hopefully you will hear the conclusion of the whole matter before you render a decision.  I can ask nothing more and suggest that you take what I am saying to the Word of God and either confirm it or refute it by using the whole of scripture not isolated passages.

Isaiah 2:2-4 – “Now it will come about that in the last days the mountain of the house of the LORD will be established as the chief of the mountains, and will be raised above the hills; and all the nations will stream to it. 3 And many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; That He may teach us concerning His ways and that we may walk in His paths.” For the law will go forth from Zion and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 4 And He will judge between the nations, and will render decisions for many peoples; and they will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, And never again will they learn war.”

Micah 4:1-2 – “And it will come about in the last days that the mountain of the house of the LORD will be established as the chief of the mountains. It will be raised above the hills, and the peoples will stream to it. 2 Many nations will come and say, “Come and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD and to the house of the God of Jacob, that He may teach us about His ways and that we may walk in His paths.” For from Zion will go forth the law, even the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.”

Amos 9:11 – “In that day I will raise up the fallen booth of David, and wall up its breaches; I will also raise up its ruins and rebuild it as in the days of old…”

In Acts the apostle James quotes Amos in Acts 15:6 and then in the next verse declares that it was “…in order that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who are called by My Name…”

Spiritual Blog - Latter House

FIRST THE NATURAL, THEN….

The Spiritual… That is a principle we learn from studying God’s word, pattern, plan, and purposes.  If we use that principle in looking at THE LAST DAYS it well may give us a more clear picture and understanding of what is happening. God’s plan and desire is that HIS HOUSE become so glorious it would be a showplace on earth.  Isaiah 40:5 – “And the Glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it.”

Out of all the nations of the earth God choose one nation and commissioned them to become a ‘Kingdom of Priests’ to show forth His Glory. They became a House of the Lord that was glorious!  In Deuteronomy 12:5 we find that God chose Zion in Jerusalem as a ‘habitation’.  Clearly God cannot be contained in a physical building but He filled the ‘Tabernacle of David’ and later the ‘Temple of Solomon’ with His Glory and it was so awesome the priests could not stand to minister. The glory of that house was known throughout the land and world.

THE PROBLEM – Israel began to take for granted the Glory, Blessings, and Visitation of the Lord resulting in their becoming disobedient and negligent so the Powerful Presence departed and Ichabod was written on the doors!   Read Isaiah 64:11, Jeremiah 13:11, Haggai 1:9, and Matthew 23:37-38.  The Natural House failed but God had in mind a Spiritual House that will not fail.  He allowed them and us to get a ‘glimpse of His glory’ and see its beauty as well as the ugliness outside total dependence and unity with Him.

If you will remember when Israel returned from Babylon they attempted to rebuild the House of the Lord and when it was completed they ‘wept sorely’ because it did not compare in Glory with the previous temple.  HOLD IT!!!  That was in the natural, but the prophets declared that God’s House would take on a new dimension in the future and “…the Glory of the latter house would be greater than the former…”  (Haggai 2:9)

Therefore, either we are talking about a SPIRITUAL HOUSE or they were wrong!  BUT the New Testament writers (infallible interpreters of the Old Testament), tell us that this LATTER HOUSE will be SPIRITUAL not NATURAL!  They use the same words to describe the building materials, but identify them as LIVING rather than inanimate objects.  This HOUSE would not be fashioned out of physical stones but would be patterned after the TABERNACLE OF DAVID (Acts 15:16).  It would be PEOPLE (Ekklesia) who would show forth His Glory!

Spiritual Blog - Living Stones

1 Peter 2:5 – “You also, as living stones (living Zoe), are built up a SPIRITUAL HOUSE…”  Hebrews 3:6 tells us that Jesus became a Son over His own house; whose house YOU are…

I want to say more but will pause there having gone longer than I probably should.  So until next time may the Lord be gracious unto you and enable you to be molded as a LIVING STONE for His building.  Blessings!

THE LAST DAYS…..

Genesis 49:1 – “Then Jacob summoned his sons and said, “Assemble yourselves that I may tell you what will befall you in the days to come.”  NASU

 Spiritual Blog - Last Days

These words are spoken again in Isaiah 2:2 – “Now it will come about that In the last days…”    The prophet Micah uttered in 4:1 – “And it will come about in the last days the mountain of the house of the LORD will be established as the chief of the mountains.”   Paul declared in 2 Timothy 3:1 – “…in the last days difficult times will come.”  Then we find in 2 Peter 3:3-4 – “Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, 4 and saying, ” Where is the promise of His coming?” NASU

That is just a small sampling of passages about THE LAST DAYS and frankly I am troubled!  Anyone listening to Christian radio, watching Christian television, and reading Christian literature could easily become confused.  If I were not solid in my beliefs having studied for 40 years I would not know whether to run and hide in a cave with my tribulation supplies fearing the antichrist or stand tall in the LIVING CHRIST! One could reach the point where they were so confused they would not know whether they can believe the Bible or not because of the vastly conflicting messages and signals being sent.  No wonder Paul admonished church at Corinth in 1 Corinthians 1:10 to ‘speak the same thing without divisions’.  That is not a reality in today’s church world nor will it likely be in the foreseeable future.

Some tell us that the devil is destroying everything and his antichrist is coming and it will be much worse.  Their message brings incredible gloom and despair to the heart.  Another declares that God is ‘restoring’, we have ‘authority’ and should be exercising our dominion in this present world.  They all sound so convincing!

Some are more concerned about “The Man of Sin” than they are about ‘The Sin of Man’.  To some, it seems, we do it all and to others we do nothing.  Some declare that if I confess and declare it I have it and others say that is presumption and trials, tribulations and difficulties are required to bring us to maturity so bring on the suffering.  They all sound so convincing!

Some seem more concerned about their brand of doctrine than they are about God’s Kingdom.  Others are so concerned about the Kingdom of God they are willing to receive almost any doctrine.  Some see the church as parenthetical (keeping God occupied until Israel is ready to resume her role), and others see it as the focus of God in these last days.  They all sound so convincing!

WHAT is the answer?  Let me be overly simplistic, there is no answer other than JESUS!  If the Holy Spirit does not bring revelation, illumination, and enlightenment we will continue to grope around in human blindness framing our own ‘Doctrines of Men’ elevating them to a position higher than God as did the Pharisees.  We will call it ‘doctrinal purity’ and out of that will spring forth ‘pride’ and even a ‘spirit of rebellion’ which produces spiritual death.

Matthew 13:29 – – “Jesus said:  ‘The harvest is the end of the age…’”

Jesus said enough about the Harvest and the Last Days to easily conclude that the Harvest is an important dimension of the Eternal Purpose of God especially as it relates to the LAST DAYS!   Let me suggest that based on my understanding of Scripture one of the things we can expect in the LAST DAYS is a ‘Massive Ingathering of Souls’ into the Kingdom or Harvest!  So while things are dark and will grow darker I encourage you to look to the author and finisher of our faith and be encouraged that GOD IS GOD and ALWAYS WILL BE GOD!  He’s not finished yet!

I have more I want to say but will hit the pause button here and wait until next time.  Blessings as you go through your day!  May you be fruitful in all that you do!

MEDITATE, CONTEMPLATE, AND REMEMBER…..

Psalms 119:15-16 – “I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate Your ways. 16 I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.”  NKJV

 Spiritual Blog - Meditate

I told someone a few years ago that I liked to mediate on God’s Word and you would have thought I had just confessed to being a mass murder or something the way they reacted to the word meditate.  All they could conceive in their mind was ‘Transcendental Meditation’ and were appalled that I would practice any form of meditation.  Never mind that the Word of God encouraged what I was talking about.

The word, ‘meditate’ in the Hebrew means ‘to muse’ which is simply to think about something carefully and thoroughly.  It is to become absorbed in thought and to turn that thought over and over in the mind.  It would be akin to ‘unpicking’ a knitted sweater until it falls apart or opens up and becomes clear.  I have, at times, spent hours thinking about a few words used in a passage as I focused on the potential and possible meanings.  I have found that, at times, I could not shake a particular passage from my mind for weeks as I thought about it.  In so doing I have found that, often a passage will become such a part of me that it transformed some aspect of my life.  It is to ‘ponder’ and the implication is that you will carry on a conversation with yourself although it may be completely silent and in your mind.  You talk with yourself about it as you examine it deeply and carefully.

Then he said, ‘contemplate’ God’s ways which is again to ‘think deeply’ or ‘carefully’ about something.  It is to ‘regard’ or look at in detail.  The Psalmist is thinking deeply on the precepts and ways of God.  It is to look at the ways or paths of God intently.  I have found that many grasp the ‘Acts of God’ but many fail to understand the ‘Ways of God’.  Psalms 103 declares that God made His ‘ways’ known to Moses and His ‘acts’ to the sons of Israel.  Moses had a deeper level of understanding of the precepts and paths of the Lord than did the children of Israel.  God help us to seek to know His Ways not just His Acts!

The result of meditation and contemplation is DELIGHT in God’s statutes.  Some almost grudgingly follow the directives and commandments of God’s Word but the Psalmist engaged in deep thought on God’s precepts and ways and found that the Statutes or Laws of God brought delight to his heart and mind.  He understood that it was not just a rule but a principle with purpose.

Then the declaration I will not ‘forget’ Your Word.  The Hebrew usage means “I will not mislay Your Word”.  I will not fail to remember.  I have found that the Word hidden in my heart is not hidden but filed away for future reference and guidance.  It becomes an anchor in my life that motivates and leads me in right paths.  It becomes a pillar and anchor in my life.  I have mediated upon it until I understood the precept, grasped the purpose in the ways or paths, delighted in the statutes and therefore it is virtually impossible for me to forget the Word.

That is what I’m talking about when I say I MEDITATE on the Word of God!  May God be with you as you go through your day!

KEEPERS OF THE AQUARIUM

Matthew 9:35-38 – “Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.   36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.  38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”  NKJV

Spiritual Blog - Fishers of Men

In Matthew 4:19 Jesus said, “Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men…”  From Jesus’ time to now the harvest has been plentiful but the harvesting has not always been.  I’ve had people tell me that this area or that was a hard area’ as a reason for the lack of growth of ingathering of souls in their community and local church.  I understand that and have ministered in some of those ‘hard areas’ sometimes with more success than others.  I can relate and do not question the labors of those men/women laboring in those fields.  I simply say the potential ‘harvest’ is plentiful, for I believe Jesus’ words.

Through my years of ministry including leading congregations as pastor I have found that too often more attention is given to those we are trying to keep’ than those we are trying to ‘reach’.  I’ve seen far more church swapping’ than ‘harvest gathering’ and it disturbs most pastors for our hearts burn to ‘reach the lost’ and follow the heart of our Lord who came to ‘seek’ and to ‘save’ that which was lost.

I remember hearing two pastors going at each other with the accusation of ‘sheep stealing’ being leveled.  The one being accused said, “Well if you fed them properly they wouldn’t be so skinny they could crawl under the fence.”  I thought you are both wrong!  What fence?  Do we have a fence to keep people in?  Are we a prison or a hospital?  Are we guarding our territory or harvesting the souls of men for the Kingdom of God?  What is our purpose?  Is it to have large numbers in attendance weekly or to bring in the Harvest of God?  Are we Fishers of Men or Keepers of the Aquarium?

I served in one city where there were ten churches of the same denomination as ours and there were people in each church that had been in virtually all of them at one time or another.  The sheep moved from one sheep shed to another, took on that brand for a time and then moved on.  I do not suggest that what is needed are more evangelism campaigns or programs for ‘soul winning’ but more LIFE lived in the community that speaks that “in Him we live, move and have our being.”  More LIFE that says it is “Christ in us the hope of glory.”  More demonstration of the LIFE of CHRIST being manifest in our day to day actions and then I believe we would become more like the Early Church in that our daily lives would produce fruit, reap harvests, and then our Sunday gatherings would be ‘reporting times’ rather than just ‘preaching times.’

The church has a mandate to ‘go’, ‘gather’, ‘equip’, and ‘train’ not ‘entertain’.  I do not mind entertainment and would never suggest that you do not need to provide ministry and functions that touch all the people attending the local congregation.  I simply suggest that if we become ‘Keepers of the Aquarium’ rather than Fishers of Men’ we have missed the heart of what our purpose is.  My daily prayer is “Lord send forth laborers into the harvest…”

May God help us locally and universally turn our hearts to the harvest and rescue the perishing before it is everlastingly too late.   May God be with you as you go through your day!
